Play as a stray cat navigating a decaying cybercity inhabited by robots in this atmospheric adventure game.

Our Take

There is a moment about twenty minutes into Stray where you realize the controller vibrates when you purr. Not when you fight something, not when something explodes.when you curl up on a cushion and purr. That tiny detail tells you everything about what kind of game this is.

You play as a tabby cat with no name, no backstory, just a catwho falls into a long-forgotten underground city populated entirely by robots. These robots have developed their own culture, their own anxieties, their own little apartments with TV sets and curtains. They have never seen the sky. Most of them have never seen a cat.

The actual gameplay is straightforward. You jump between rooftops, solve environmental puzzles, and occasionally outrun some genuinely unsettling creatures in the sewers. Your robot companion B-12 translates for the locals and handles anything that requires thumbs. It is not a long game.six or seven hours on a first playthrough.and the puzzles lean more toward “find the thing and bring it to the place” than anything that will genuinely stump you.

But none of that is really why people remember Stray. They remember the way the robots react when a cat walks into their bar for the first time. They remember the musician who plays you a song. They remember curling up on a pile of books in a dusty library while the soundtrack goes quiet and the world just… breathes for a minute.

The last act pushes into territory that is more bittersweet than cozy, and the chase sequences in the midgame might rattle players who came purely for the vibes. But the emotional payoff at the end is earned. This is a game that trusts its atmosphere more than its mechanics, and that bet pays off completely.

Your cat will not save the world. But the world will be a little different for having a cat walk through it.

the cozy factor

Why It's Cozy

There is a dedicated meow button and absolutely no punishment for pressing it constantly. The city is hauntingly beautiful rather than stressful, the puzzles never spike in difficulty, and you can nap on any cushion you find. The back half gets slightly tense with some chase sequences, but nothing that ruins the vibe.

for the cat lovers

Why Cat Lovers Love It

BlueTwelve clearly studied real cats obsessively. The way you thread between railings, arch into a stretch after sitting too long, and knock paint cans off ledges for no reason.it all feels right. There is a moment early on where you can rub against a robot's legs and it reaches down to pet you. That one interaction sold millions of copies.
