Our Take

ZOMO’s cat paw keycaps have sold more units than any other artisan keycap in mechanical keyboard history. Over 7,000 on Drop.com alone, and that does not count Amazon, AliExpress, or their own store.

The design is simple. A metal or ABS base with a soft silicone cat paw on top. The toe beans are individually molded and genuinely squishy. Press your Escape key and you feel a soft paw pad give under your finger. It is deeply unnecessary and deeply satisfying.

They come in several variants. The original has an aluminum alloy base with opaque silicone. The transparent version lets your keyboard RGB shine through the paw pad, which looks surprisingly good in a dark room. Color options include white, pink, orange, gray, and translucent.

Compatibility is universal for any keyboard with Cherry MX style switches, which covers the vast majority of mechanical keyboards on the market. The keycap fits the standard ESC key position.

The practical concerns are real. Silicone attracts dust and finger oils more than hard plastic. You will clean this keycap more often than the rest. The squish also means it registers differently from your other keys, so competitive gamers may want to stick to ABS. But nobody is buying a cat paw keycap for competitive advantage. You are buying it because it makes you smile every time you hit Escape.

Things to Know

These are single keycaps, typically for your Escape key. At $15-30 each, that is expensive per key. The silicone will collect dust and oils faster than ABS or PBT caps. Some people find the squish distracting for actual typing. But as a desk decoration that you occasionally boop, they are perfect.
